Patsy, a single mother raising her biracial daughter Lyn, faces hardship and homelessness. Desperate for a place to stay, they break into a church and are discovered by Gene, the groundskeeper of a women and children's shelter. Patsy desperately searches for work but struggles to make ends meet. Eventually, Gene gives her a lead to work at Skins, a local strip club, where Patsy becomes a waitress. Lyn finds love and a sense of belonging among the dancers at Skins, foundly refered to as "Aunties" who become like family to her. But when a vindictive lawyer, Gloria, who is in love with the judge Joseph Daniels, who has fallen for Patsy, manipulates the situation to shut down the club and run the "aunties" out of town, Patsy and Lyn are once again left to fend for themselves.
